Hi Fellow Dobermaniacs!

My first intimate contact with this wonderful breed was in Adelaide in 1979.  My housemates had a very unruly but totally lovable 12 month old male named "Zep".  I vowed that when the time was right I would have one of these magnificent creatures.   And so it was that in 1984 I purchased my first very own Dobermann as a pet/companion.

Got the exhibiting bug in 1985 when I purchased a "show quality" dog from a local Tasmanian breeder.  He did not end up "show quality" so I decided to look elsewhere for a show dog.

I was lucky enough to purchase a beautiful red bitch puppy in August 1987 (yes I waited nearly 18 months for the right puppy) from Malcolm McDonald of Celestion Kennels in New South Wales.

"The only tragic part of owning a Dobermann is that part of you is buried with him when he dies"

Her first time out she went Best Baby Puppy In Show under the late Cam Milward and I was hooked!

"Che" only had 2 litters, her first (and my first) to JENSON SO SUAVE and her second under her breeder's prefix to CAN CH FREESPIRITS BLACK CATO (IMP CAN).

"Che" was on her way to her title and was Multi "In Group" and "In Show" winner when she was diagnosed with a brain tumour and I lost my baby girl far too soon.

Her daughter AEGIS ALL JAZZED UP did not make the grade for the showring (too small to win at 25").  But she made up for it in the whelping box by producing many Challenge and "In Show" winners.  Her most famous kid is CH AEGIS EYE IN THE SKYE.  "Suzi" is also the grand-dam and great grand-dam of BIS/BISS Champions and In Show winners.  Sadly we lost "Suzi" to a tragic accident on 21 January 2001. She was not quite 10 years and 3 months old.

AEGIS (pronounced EEJIS) is a Greek word that means "to protect", hence Proud Protectors.  I found it in the dictionary when looking for a prefix that was short and pertained to what a Dobermann was.

Aegis Dobermanns is a small kennel.  We are situated on a 1 acre property 20 minutes from the city of Perth.

I aim to breed Sound of Mind, Sound of Body Dobermanns. Temperament is always uppermost in my mind when selecting a stud dog or deciding on a brood bitch.  I am told that I am too fussy because I refuse to continue to campaign what I feel are inferior quality dogs, regardless of their wins in the showring.  This is probably why to date there only 10 Australian Champions under the AEGIS prefix, 2 are Multi Best In Show and Specialty winners.  They are in order of birth, CH AEGIS BOLD ENCHANTRESS WAC, CH AEGIS EYE IN THE SKYE, CH AEGIS FIGHT TO SURVIVE,  CH AEGIS XTREME MAGIC, SUP CH AEGIS DRAGON TATTOO, CH AEGIS GRACE SLICK, CH AEGIS ROCK N ROLL MAESTRO, CH AEGIS THE NIGHT MANAGER (AI) CH AEGIS TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (AI) and CH AEGIS HARLEY QUINN.

There are a lot people who, whether they realise it or not, have helped me to get to the position I am in today.  Mind you, there is still a long road ahead!

My husband Greg, without his faith in me and encouragement, I would never be able to do the things I do.

The well-known Australian and overseas breeders whose brains I have picked and probably driven crazy with questions.

My best friend in the world, Rosie Edge of Karzac Dobermanns in Tasmania.  Without her unfailing support, I would probably not have kept going in Dobermanns after the early and tragic loss of my beloved boy "Bookie" (AEGIS GETYA BETS ON).  You will never realise what an impact you have had on my life and what a wonderful friend you are to me and I thank you.

We have taken our sport to the next level in the past 12 months and Greg is now a Utility Group judge.  I, Denise, had to put my judging aspirations on hold in 2003 due to ill health.

With the partnerships we have formed with various other established & respected Dobermann kennels around the country, the future looks very bright.

I would like to think that the best is yet to come.
