ANKC Standard Origin Is a Dobe for me? Yes - I want A Dobe Where to buy a Dobe from? Pet or Show Dog? Diet House Training Training Crate Training Grooming

Just love me forever, that is all I ask.

You have looked around.  You have read all the books.  You have had infinite discussions with spouse, children, family and friends.  You have weighed up all the pros and cons.  You have contacted the breed clubs, you have spoken to many breeders and you may have even found time to go to a few shows.  You may have even had a few sleepless nights during the decision making phase.  Finally! The decision is made.

YES - YOU WANT TO BE OWNED BY A DOBERMANN!

Please read Where to buy a Dobe from?

You arrive at the breeder's on the assigned day to pick up your beautiful bundle of love.  Everyone you know, including the milkman, has given you advice on what to do and how to feed, etc.  Everyone has told you of a different diet, different training methods etc.  You are thinking to yourself, surely it is not this hard.  Truth is - IT IS SIMPLE - just keep in mind your ultimate aim - to have a healthy, obedient, well-loved animal.

If you have purchased your Dobermann puppy from a REPUTABLE REGISTERED BREEDER, which I will add is the most wise and sensible place to purchase your puppy from, then you should leave with bundles of information about caring for your puppy, including diet charts, worming schedules, vaccination schedules, etc.  Stick to the diet that the Breeder recommends!!!  This is no doubt what the puppy has been raised on and your puppy should be in excellent health and condition when you take it home, so why change?  More about this in DIET.

The first few days you have with your puppy are the most important and most surly, nervy dogs owe this tendency to wrong training from the outset.  NEVER say "Oh it doesn't matter" once!  Start the way you are going to finish.  If the dog is to be an outside dog - make your puppy a warm bed, in the laundry or shed, or on the patio, making sure it is well off the floor, no draughts and keep him/her in it right from the first day.  Should your dog be a housedog, bring him/her inside and start right away on House-Training.
